Costa Rica Host Country For Surf Cup

Costa Rica Master Surf CupThe country known for some of the best waves and surfers will finally have an opportunity to host a championship cup surfing event. The event will take place in June 2013 at Playa Hermosa in Jaco and will be a qualification for surfers looking for a spot on the National Surf Team which will participate in the ISA World Masters Championships in Nicaragua.

The championship cup event will follow the format similar to that of the Masters World Championship, elevating the event to the next level in terms of surfing events in Costa Rica. The surfers selected will form the Costa Rica National Surf Team which will ten compete in the World Championship in July 2012. The Costa Rican event will feature age categories, including Masters (35-39 years), Grand Master (40-44), Kahunas (45-49) and the Female category (over 35).

Costa Rican Tequila Schieber Ready To Surf

Currently Costa Rican Craig Tequila Schieber is the only athlete who has secured a spot on the National Surf Team. As a gold medalist in the Grand Kahunas category, the winner of this event and category automatically secured a spot on the team.

Although this event is a year away, it will mark Costa Rica’s commitment to the surfing community and ultimately elevate this country’s status in terms of hosting events on a new level. Good luck to the approximate 30 participants who will vie for one of the most coveted prizes. Good luck to all the surfers.
