Jubilee Celebrations Begin This Weekend

Costa Rica Queen's JubileeThis weekend is the beginning of the official celebrations to mark Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee, marking 60 years on the throne. This is not just an opportunity for England to celebrate but the rest of the world. For monarchist lovers or not, despite political opinions and views, putting all those issues aside, one must recognize the individual, who for 60 years has remained a fixture in today’s quickly changing world. What’s in today may be tomorrow’s news but for the Queen, her reign has been a constant in the world.

The Jubilee celebrations began yesterday with Brits participating in a 4-day weekend celebrations. The festivities will begin with the Epsom Derby horserace today. As an  avid equestrian, the Queen has participate in the past as an entrant as well as a spectator. This year, there will be no royal runner in the horse field but that won’t stop this Queen from perhaps placing a bet on a potential winner.

On Sunday, people across the UK will be encouraged to participate in the Big Jubilee Lunch. The event will encourage friends and neighbours to organize picnic lunches and street parties to bring communities together. Monday will see a concert performance by such artists as Elton John, Jessie J and Ed Sheeran in front of Buckingham Palace. The end of the concert will see the lighting of 4,000 beacons across the UK and the world. The Queen herself will light the UK’s last beacon, the National Beacon, with fireworks to follow.

The highlight of the weekend celebrations will include the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant which will feature the participation of 1,000 boats which will escort the Queen and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.

In Costa Rica, a Queen’s Diamond  Jubilee Picnic has been organized for June 17th. The event will feature some of the Queen’s favorite items including Marmite, curry pastes and of course tea. The event, which will be held at the Zamora Estate, in Santa Ana. There will be games for the kids and raffles. The venue also has a swimming pool which will be open to attendees of the event.
