Volcano Activity Creates Alert In Costa Rica

Costa Rica Turrialba VolcanoThe National Seismological Network of Costa Rica is on alert as it recently upgraded the threat level of one of Costa Rica’s well known volcanoes, the Turrialba Volcano located in the province of Cartago located east of San Jose. The threat level has been upgraded to yellow, indicating higher signs of unrest and is being monitored for volcanic activity.

The change in threat level indicates that the National Seismological Network is taking precautions and alerting the public that there is a probability of an eruption – when is unclear but the activity indicates that something is brewing with this volcano. The upgrade is a result of the movement of gases and fluids that has been recorded recently. The volcano fumaroles have also increased in temperature with some eruptions of ash. The National Seismological Network has also recorded incandescence on the fumaroles and a weakening of the craters interior wall.

Alerts Indicate Costa Rica Volcanic Activity Increased

All these noted changes have caused the alert change and in Costa Rica, the Turrialba Volcano is the only active volcano with the upgraded alert status. Costa Rica is home over 110 volcanoes, with 5 active volcanoes, including Arenal, Poas, Irazu, Rincon de la Vieja and of course, Turrialba. Can you imagine if they all blew at once? Although the chances are slim to none, anything can happen in the land of Costa Rica! Pura Vida volcano watchers!
