Carlos Munoz Tops Reef Classic

Surfer Takes Open Title

Costa Rica Carlos MunozIt was a fantastic weekend for Costa Rican athletes. With a gold win by sprinter Nery Brenes, the weekend was wrapped up with another win, that by none other than surfer Carlos Munoz who took the title of yesterday’s Open Champion Reef Callsic Costa Rica, the fifth stage of the Latin American Tour.

Held on the beach of beautiful Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, the event sponsored by Freestyle Shark and Surfmag was a complete success for Costa Rican surfers.  Joining fellow winning Costa Rican, Anthony Flores who won in the Longboard category, Carlos Munoz was the day’s winner with the championship event will continuing on Wednesday in Venao Beach in Panama.

For Munoz, pushing the limits of surfing is what the competition is all about and in this instance, Munoz did not disappoint. Showcasing the “Superman” maneuver and showing that he was willing to risk it all, the backside air reverse resulted in Munoz’s rise to the top of the scoreboard. To clinch the title, Munoz carried out a 360 that took flight.

Munoz Gives It His All

For Munoz who appeared exhausted after the event, the title was the culmination of a fantastic year, and he dedicated his win to his mother, who he referenced as the most important in his life. In typical surfer style, Munoz stated “Pura Vida, God Bless You All”.

Munoz has been on a roll this year, competing at extraordinary levels. Reaching the quarter finals in the Pipe Pro earlier in the year , the surfer’s plan is to qualify for the world tour and at the ripe old age of 19, he is on the right direction to fulfill that dream! Pura Vida Carlos Munoz. Congratulations on your success!
