Will Smith Shooting Movie In Costa Rica

Costa Rica Will SmithSuperstar actor Will Smith has begun filming his latest movie “After Earth” scheduled for theatre release in 2013 in of all countries, Costa Rica. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, the director of the 1999 film “The Sixth Sense” was in Costa Rica last July scouting locations and now the film is being produced.

Will Smith’s last film was in 2008 which was a banner year for the actor who stared in Seven Pounds and Hancock. Smith will return to the big screen this summer with the release of Men In Black III. After Earth will pair Will Smith with his son Jaden Smith who also starred with his father and made his acting debut in the movie “The Pursuit of Happyness” which was released in 2006.

After Earth is based on the premise that father and son crash-land on the planet Earth 1,000 years in the future after being abandoned by humanity. The movie centers on a young boy navigating an abandoned scary Earth in an attempt to save himself and his father after their ship crashes.

It is expected that the film will focus on the Arenal Volcano region, including the caverns and hot springs of the region. Costa Rica is ideal for a futuristic film with its lush surroundings and interesting settings including the limestone caverns. In addition to being used as a movie location, Costa Rica has been the back drop for episodes of The Bachelor, NBC’s dating tv reality show, Love in the Wild and numerous commercials and fashion photo shoots. Will Mr. Smith have an opportunity to see a bit of Costa Rica during his stay. Let’s hope so….. Pura Vida Will Smith!
