Costa Rica Sloths In Limelight

Costa Rica Mr. SlothWho would have though that a Sloth would generate so much excitement? Yes they are interesting creatures but let’s face it, they are not the first thing on the minds of travelers who plan their vacation to Costa Rica. Or are they?

When the Costa Rica Tourism Board (ICT) launched their “Costa Rica’s Million Dollar Gift of Happiness” campaign back in early October 2011, the world was introduced to Mr. Sloth, the spokesman for all that is wonderful about Costa Rica. Mr. Sloth, through his adventurous in his ad campaigns has become a Internet phenomenon, attracting more that 50,000 visitors to his Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/visitcostarica  So why all the fuss about this adorable yet unknown sudden superstar? Well it’s the opportunity to win a customized trip to Costa Rica!

The ad campaign , “The Gift of Happiness” is giving away 255 trips to Costa Rica from October 6th, 2011 to February 5, 2012. On a weekly basis, one lucky person will be chosen to pick from serveral themed typed vacations; Adventure Happiness, Wildlife Happiness, Romantic Happiness and Adrenaline Happiness. You can enter on Mr. Sloth’s Facebook page.  To date, 19 people have received the Gift of Happiness including a special trip given away by Anderson Cooper on his daily CNN show.

Mr. Cooper gave away a Gift of Happiness to a couple recently engaged and whose YouTube video of the engagement has attracted almost one million views on YouTube. The video is simply human emotion at its finest and the couple are well deserving of the trip. The trip was courtesy of the “Gift of Happiness” campaign.

“Gift of Happiness” Campaign Positive for Costa Rica

The interest generated by the “Gift of Happiness” campaign promoting Costa Rica as a tourist destination has also attracted the attention of media outlets and publications, generating a much needed buzz for Costa Rica. With economic conditions in turmoil not only in the U.S. but also Europe, travellers are chosey when it comes to spending their travel dollar. The “Gift of Happiness” campaign highlights some of the best things about Costa Rica in a unique way, through the eyes of Mr. Sloth.

The high season in Costa Rica is just around the corner and the country is waiting to see what this season hold for its tourism industry. With the interest generated by the “Gift of Happiness” campaign we known that one thing is for sure, Mr. Sloth will be a very busy guy and will be on everyone’s list of things to see while travelling in Costa Rica!

    This guy is truly cute! What he can do for Costa Rican tourism remains to be seen, but he’s really captivating … although can’t imagine such an animal running, or slothing around the yard :)
