With over 1,000 miles of beach in Costa Rica, there is certainly a spot for you. You are bound to find a piece of beach with your name on it to enjoy the sun, swim or people watch. Known as “playas” in Spanish, Costa Rica beaches are varied, from pure white sand to golden, grey and black sand beaches. With 65% of  Costa Rica’s borders on a coastal belt, there are plenty of beaches for privacy and relaxation.

If you are looking for a developed beach community, then the Guanacaste coast is the spot to be. Strolling along the beach and enjoying the sun’s rays, the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica is the ideal spot. In addition, the area has some of the best surf breaks and water activities if you happen to want more than just sunshine and relaxation.

Caribbean Coast Rasta Vibe

For a great time, visit the Caribbean coast, home to the “Rasta” culture and lush vegetation. Offering some of the most gorgeous white sand coconut lined beaches, this area is also considered to be the most geographically diverse region of Costa Rica.  This area is a great spot to get up and close with nature, particularly the Tortuguero National Park made famous for its turtle nesting.


For the remote feeling and seclusion, the South Pacific coast is for you. With the region known for its famous mangroves and well known surfers’ beach, Play Domincal, this is the spot to enjoy the sun and surf. Hosting world famous surf competitions, you are bound to run in to the best of the best surfers during one of the many surf competitions. The beach is a great spot to take it all in but there is also a fantastic mix of cafes, shops, bars and restaurants to experience the culture of this beach region.

The beaches in Costa Rica are varied and offer visitors the opportunity to relax or take part in some fantastic adventures and enjoy some Costa Rican culture. When deciding to visit, make sure to make time for a bit of the Costa Rica beach experience!
