Costa Rica Tamarindo Marathon Battles Humidity

Tamarindo Beach Marathon 2011 Costa RicaOrganizers of the 2011 Tamarindo Marathon held on September 17, 2011 can be proud of the success of the event despite less than ideal conditions for the marathon participants.

While temperatures were kind to the marathoners, the humidity which was the result of several days of rain prior to the event was the factor to beat in this marathon and not the participating runners.

Kenya Shines in Tamarindo Costa Rica

The Kenyan athletes stole the show despite great efforts by all the participants including the Costa Rica contingent. A. Ondari from Kenyan battled it out with home favorite Javier Montero to win the full marathon category. Conceding, Mr. Montero confirmed that Kenyan was on fire and unstoppable.


In the women’s category, Leah Kigen outpaced Cristina Marin of Costa Rica by 13 minutes for the top prize but the Kenyan was more pleased by the impression left on her by the Costa Rican community. In the half marathon, the results were whisker tight with Sammy Cheptoo outpacing Cesar Lizano by only 22 seconds, giving the Kenyan participants another victory. Mr. Lizano attributed the wins by the Kenyan team as a reflection of the Costa Rican participants who push competitors to their ultimate performances.

Congratulations to all. Costa Rica can be proud of their marathoners and those who participated can be proud of the event held at Tamarindo Costa Rica!
