Costa Rica Fidel Gamboa Dead

Fidel Gamboa DeadCosta Rica is in mourning after the untimely death of their famous musician Fidel Gamboa who along with his brother, Jaime were part of the group Malpais.

The singer passed away after suffering a heart attack after his concert on Saturday at the Club 212 in Heredia.  Gamboa was in good spirits during the show and showed no signs of stress or discomfort. After the show, the musicians spent some time together, with Gamboa participating in conversation, again no signs of what was to come.

The death comes as a huge loss for Costa Rica and the musical community. As an ardent supporter of the environment in addition to Gamboa’s musically contribution to Costa Rica, social networks including Facebook and Twitter responded in disbelief.

The president of Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla expressed her condolences, stating “Live Forever”.

Born in Nicoya, Fidel Gamboa was part of a family filled with musical greats, including his uncle Maz Goldenberg. With a career of awards, his most noted was the Achilles Echeverria National Award for his work on Inhombre. He was also recently recognized and awarded the prize of ACAM composer and author of the year in the folk music category.
