Costa Rica Paddle BoardPlaya Danta in the Las Catalinas community of Costa Rica is quickly becoming the international spot for stand up paddle boarding.

The Playa Danta area in the heart of the Guanacaste “Gold Coast” has a unique flat water bay that with its surroundings is an ideal spot for this increasingly popular water sport.

With several near shore islands, all in a 2 mile area, and additional islands for longer paddles, the setting provides for competition runs on all skill levels. In addition to the versatility of the region, the scenery is simply breath taking. While paddling you may encounter turtles, jellyfish and more exciting, migratory dolphins and whales.


The water temperature remains quite consistent throughout the year, in the 85 degree range with two seasons , the green and gold. The green season begins in May with light rainfall during the month, increasing through to October. The rainfall creates a lush and tropical landscape, simply breathtaking. The “gold” or dry season begins in November and runs through to April. These are hot and dry months as the landscape takes on a golden hue.

Paddling in this region is best during the months of November through February. With blue skies and sheet glass ocean conditions, paddling is simply at its best. The months of March through to May have hot and dry weather, with increased winds that could cause white cap conditions.

Supported by a supply shop for paddling , Pura Vida Ride and some restaurants for after paddle activities, this region is is ideal for experiencing paddling the Costa Rica way!
