La Fortuna Costa Rica is considered to be the gateway to the Areal Volcano region and although it is a tourist town, the region has been able to maintain its typical small town Costa Rican feel.

Arenal Eco Zoo Snaky Situation

The El Castillo community, access by a short 20 minute boat ride across Lake Arenal is home to the Arenal Eco Zoo. The zoo is home to more than 70 species of snakes, with a number of poisonous types, spiders and frogs. A large python greets visitors as the arrive at the zoo.

The Arenal Ecozoo is unique in that it offers  accommodations to its visitors who want to use the property to explore the various species as well as a base to see the surrounding sites.
