Mel Gibson’s Costa Rica Surfing Troubles

Mel Gibson Costa Rica

One of the first well known celebrities to purchase property in Costa Rica was Mel Gibson, the Australian actor who has recently made the news headlines in the US regarding spousal abuse claims and child support issues. In Costa Rica, Mr. Gibson is making headlines for a different reason, coming up against Nicoya’s Town Council.

In a report issued at the end of March of this year, five buildings constructed over the last ten years on Mr. Gibson’s parcel of land where done so without proper municipal permits. After inspections by the municipality it was determined that several homes, a restaurant and pool were constructed without proper permits. An assessment of the buildings will be determined by the Architects Board to confirm if the structures where previously approved in plans submitted at a prior time.

Recent construction including storage areas and a laundry room were constructed with a valid permit and have been included in the property registry. In terms of the structures constructed without permits, an assessment will be made to determine whether the buildings should be torn down or fines imposed including taxes that were not collected on these buildings.

Mr. Gibson purchased the property in 2007, paying $25.8 million and it is rumored that Lady Gaga could be the new owner. Local newspapers have been reporting that the actor has sold the property to the pop artist and that Ms. Gaga is expected to visit Costa Rica shortly to experience Pura Vida first hand.

Lady Gaga has not been the only pop star to be linked to Mr. Gibson and his Costa Rican estate. Back in May 2008, Britney Spears was seen vacationing with Mel, his wife at the time and Britney’s father, Jaime Spears on the beaches of Costa Rica.

The 500 acre property with a seven bedroom main house and two-two bedroom homes, private pool and dining facility if actually purchased by Lady Gaga will need to make room for her egg which undoubtedly make its way to Costa Rica, with or without a building permit. – brought to you by CostaRicaCLOSEUP.com
