Arenal Observatory LodgeIf adventure is for you then you need to spend some time at the Arenal Observatory Lodge, located 1.7 miles from the Arenal Volcano. It is here that you can look out the window and see the active volcano spew its volcanic lava. Protected by the deep flowing Rio Agua Caliente, this is the closest that you will stay to a volcano.

The Lodge was built in 1987 by the Smithsonian Institute and served as a scientific research station. The Lodge is the only hotel that is located in the Arenal Volcano National Park. The Lodge is surrounded by 870 acres filled with rainforest, trails, reforestation and farmland. Resident naturalists lead walks along the trails.The Lodge has 48 rooms spread out over four buildings with views of the volcano from most of the bedrooms. There are also accommodations available for the disabled.

The restaurant and dining rooms has floor to ceiling windows overlooking the southern face of the volcano. There is also an outside deck for views of Lake Arenal and the volcano. Chefs prepare international and local fare using local ingredients and fruits. Relaxation is found in the infinity pool and Jacuzzi which can accommodate up to twelve people.
