San Jose Costa RicaThere are a number of cultural experiences that you can take in on your vacation in Costa Rica. The capital of San Jose is home to museums and performing arts. If that’s not your style there are tours that you can take to experience the country’s culture.

To experience the human culture or Pura Vida while on vacation in Costa Rica you can take in several tours which show how Ticos live and work.

A. Coffee tours

A visit to a coffee farm is a must when in Costa Rica. Monteverde, San Jose, Heredia and Naranjo all boast coffee plantation tours. The Cafe Monteverde tour gives visitors an opportunity to see rural Costa Rican life and the production of coffee. San Jose is some to the Doka Coffee Estate, Heredia home to Cafe Britt and Naranjo which is home to Espiritu Santo Coffee. Tours include roasting facilities and tastings.

B. Sarchi

Well known for its pink church, this is not the only thing that is colorful in this town. Sarchi is known for its artisans and street shopping. Most famous are the unique and colourful oxcarts that are often displayed in photographs of Costa Rica. This is a great opportunity to bring home some unique and colorful souvenirs and furniture. Artisans are available to talk to and provide information about their art and the history behind their pieces. This is definitely an area that cannot be missed. Items are available for shipment home and can be arranged. Costa Rica is known for its artisans and pottery and pieces should be obtained to remind you of the paradise you had to leave.

C. Shopping

San Jose the capital of Costa Rica is known for its variety and bargains when it comes to shopping in Costa Rica. But there are some other areas worth noting and exploring. The Central Valley has three large malls. The Multiplaza mall has two locations, in Escazu which is between the airport and San Jose and the Multiplaza del Este in Zapote, a suburb of San Jose. The Terra Mall is between San Jose and Cartargo. The Ropa Americana is a chain store in the Central Valley and carries American and Italian brands.
